This presentation of the career of George J. Heuer concerns one William S. Halsted's most trusted and esteemed trainees. Many of the facts concerning Dr. Heuer are known but there also are many that are not known and the purpose of this discourse is to record his important contributions involving the training of surgeons as we know it today. Dr. Heuer had many obstacles to overcome in establishing residency training programs in Cincinnati and New York City, but he was able to overcome most of them with the able assistance of his dedicated lieutenants.
