Abstract
This paper reviews findings on the relationship between blood pressure control and the progression of renal disease. Experimental studies demonstrate a correlation between systemic blood pressure and histologic glomerular injury and the delay in progression of renal disease with antihypertensive therapy, particularly with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors. Recent clinical findings are reviewed, including epidemiologic data linking hypertension to subsequent renal disease, and clinical studies showing a beneficial effect on progression of renal disease with lower than usual blood pressure targets.Entities:
