Scanning techniques to assess thyroid nodules.

J L Quinn, R E Henkin.

Abstract

Despite its nonspecificity, the thyroid scan remains an important diagnostic aid in the evaluation of the patient with a solitary thyroid nodule. Dual radionuclide thyroid imaging using 99m-Tc pertechnetate and 123-I offers useful information than either alone. The role of complementary diagnostic modalities using ultransonography and thermography looks promising but is as yet unclear.
