A clinical isolate of Salmonella typhi requiring anaerobic conditions for primary isolation.

Abstract

An unusual isolate of Salmonella typhi from a patient with typhoid fever is described. The organism grew only on anaerobic subculture from multiple blood cultures. After repeated transfer the organism adapted to aerobic growth but still required carbon dioxide.
