Abstract
Some proteins are internalized by live cells by a process that does not involve classical endocytosis and thus gain direct access to the cytoplasm and nucleus. These same proteins are often secreted, despite the absence of a signal peptide. Recent studies of this unexpected mode of intercellular signaling have opened the way for biotechnological developments.Mesh:
