Abstract
A survey of cardiovascular diseases was carried out in June-August 1973 in the city of Pahlavi, a port in the Caspian area in Iran. A representative sample was taken from persons aged 35 years and older from both sexes. The prevalence of high blood pressure (WHO definition) is 29,7% in men and 31,0% in women of this age group. ECG tracings were prepared and the prevalence of various abnormalities are presented. A considerable proportion of the population have ST segment and T wave abnormalities. Correlation between ECG abnormalities and blood pressure figures has been studied. This study shows that there is a relationship between ECG abnormalities of group 3, 4 and 5 (Minnesota Coding) and the levels of blood pressure.Entities:
