[The ferret (Putorius putorius furo), an additional final host of Sarcocystis muris (author's transl)].

M Rommel.

Abstract

Two ferrets were fed mice experimentally infected with Sarcocystis muris. After 7 days they excreted with their faeces for 9 days sporocysts which were morphologically indistinguishable from S. muris sporocysts. Five mice which each received 70 of these sporocysts orally developed macroscopically visible cysts of S. muris in their musculature after 4 months.
