Predicting dyslexia at 8 years of age using neonatal brain responses.

D L Molfese1.

Abstract

Auditory event-related potentials recorded at birth to speech and nonspeech syllables from six scalp electrodes discriminated between newborn infants who 8 years later would be characterized as dyslexic, poor, or normal readers. These findings indicate that reading problems can be identified and possible interventions undertaken up to 9 years earlier than is currently possible. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.
