I Rochlitz1.

Abstract

In recent years, with increasing interest in applied ethology and animal welfare, research has been carried out on the behaviour and welfare of cats kept in different environments. These include laboratories, animal shelters, quarantine and boarding catteries and the home. This article presents a review of this research, makes recommendations for the housing and care of cats in laboratories, and comments on existing Codes of Practice.
