Body dysmorphic disorder: diagnostic controversies and treatment challenges.

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a distressing, impairing, and relatively common yet underrecognized disorder. This clinically focused article discusses the following diagnostic controversies and challenges associated with BDD: the underdiagnosis and misdiagnosis of BDD, the relationship between BDD and obsessive-compulsive disorder, the relationship between BDD and depression, the delusionality controversy, and whether BDD can be diagnosed in children and adolescents.
