Abstract
Nineteen cases of myoepithelial carcinoma (malignant myoepithelioma) in salivary glands were studied clinicopathologically. The clinical features are as follows: arise most frequently within the parotid glands, followed by the submandibular glands; rapidly enlarging mass with extensive invasion of the surrounding tissues in some cases; low rate of cervical lymph node metastasis but high rate of distant metastasis; very frequent recurrence after surgical excision; and poor prognosis. The carcinoma belongs to the high grade malignant tumor. It must be treated radically. The elective neck dissection is generally unnecessary. It is resistant to radiotherapy. It is possible to get rather good result in limited recurrent tumors by prompt surgery.Entities:
