Relationship between the width of the occlusal table and pressures under dentures during function.

W H Roedema.

Abstract

The effect of altering the width of the occlusal table was studied on one edentulous subject. A maxillary denture was designed to accept four interchangeable posterior occlusal segments, differing only in the buccolingual dimension of the occlusal table. The opposing mandibular denture contained pressure transducers that made contact at selected sites along the residual ridge. Pressures developed during function between the denture base and the ridge mucosa were analyzed.
