Meeting cardiac patients' expectations of caring.

S Gay1.

Abstract

Understanding patients' perceptions of caring is the basis for caring interventions. This article describes how nurses can create a caring environment for patients by demonstrating nursing competency, teaching patients about their illness, and providing humanistic care. Although this study focused on cardiac patients, the principles may be applied to all critical care patients.
