OBJECTIVE: To present our experience of non-parasitic hepatic cysts. DESIGN: Retrospective study. SETTING: University Hospital, Greece. SUBJECTS: 12 consecutive patients with symptomatic non-parasitic hepatic cysts operated on during the 7-year period 1990-97 inclusive. INTERVENTIONS: Wide unroofing of the hepatic cysts. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Persistence or recurrence of symptoms and recurrence of cysts. RESULTS: Symptoms persisted or recurred in 2/12 patients and cysts recurred in 2/9 who had ultrasound scans. CONCLUSION: Surgical treatment of non-parasitic hepatic cysts was effective and safe.
