Abstract
Serum prostate-specific antigen is credited with dramatic advances in the early detection, screening, and management of men with prostatic carcinoma. There has been more than a twofold increase in the number of men diagnosed during the last decade, and prostate cancer has emerged as the most common non-skin cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men. This report summarizes the history and current status of prostate-specific antigen and other serum markers, incorporating consensus opinions from the Second International Consultation on Prostate Cancer held in Paris in June 1999.Entities:
