Abstract
The surgical treatment of flatfoot deformity has evolved during the past three decades. Soft tissue procedures alone fail to reestablish anatomic bony alignment, and bony procedures alone fail to provide dynamic support to the arch. The goal of any procedure is to reestablish the inherently stable bony configuration with adequate soft tissue balance (tendon transfer) to maintain stability in the dynamic situation. Therefore, a combination of procedures, such as soft tissue procedures combined with calcaneal displacement osteotomies and/or lateral column lengthening, may provide optimal results. The focus of this review is the role of bony correction in the treatment of the adult acquired flatfoot deformity.Entities:
