Abstract
Members of the Aurora/Ipl1p family of mitotically regulated serine/threonine kinases are emerging as key regulators of chromosome segregation and cytokinesis. Proper chromosome segregation and cytokinesis ensure that each daughter cell receives the full complement of genetic material. Defects in these processes can lead to aneuploidy and the propagation of genetic abnormalities. This review discusses the Aurora/Ipl1p kinases in terms of their protein structure and proposed function in mitotic cells and also the potential role of aurora2 in human cancer.Entities:
