Hypertensive heart failure: a report of 3 cases.

E A Dosumu1.

Abstract

Three cases typifying three different types of hypertensive heart failure (HHF) are presented. The first patient presented in congestive heart failure and has a high blood pressure (HBP) on admission. He responded to anti-failure and antihypertensive regimens. The second case presented with congestive heart failure but with normal blood pressure. He however had the stigmata of hypertension. The BP rose to a high level while on anti-failure treatment. With the management of the HBP and the failure he was well and discharged. The third case came in with normal BP and in congestive cardiac failure. Her BP remained normal on treatment and on follow-up. She had the stigmata of hypertension. These three cases are presented to bring to focus and to reemphasize the clinical spectrum of hypertensive heart diseases and emphasize the known criteria that can be used to differentiate the last two cases of HHF that could have been classified aetiologically as Cardiomyopathy.
