Abstract
Where pregnancy tests are unavailable, health providers, fearing possible harm to fetuses, often deny contraception to nonmenstruating clients. In Kenya, a trial of a simple checklist to exclude pregnancy showed a good negative predictive value, which could improve access to service and reduce unwanted pregnancies and their sequelae. Keywords: Africa; Africa South Of The Sahara; Clinic Activities; Counseling--women; Demographic Factors; Developing Countries; Eastern Africa; English Speaking Africa; Examinations And Diagnoses; Fertility; Kenya; Laboratory Examinations And Diagnoses; Laboratory Procedures; Organization And Administration; Population; Population Dynamics; Pregnancy Tests; Pregnancy, Unwanted--prevention and control; Program Activities; Programs; Reproductive Behavior; Women
