Abstract
Various growth factors have been proposed to be players in the development of diabetic microvascular complications. In particular, the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor system and the transforming growth factor beta system have measurable effects on the development of diabetic kidney disease through a complex intrarenal system. Recent findings indicating that these growth factors might be responsible for early renal changes in diabetes have provided insight into processes that might be relevant to the future development of new drugs useful in the treatment of diabetic kidney disease.Entities:
