New aspects of the structure of articular cartilage. The "tidemark" seen on the scanning electron microscope.

New observations are reported based on scanning electron microscopy, of the interface ("tidemark zone") between articular cartilage and the underlying calcified strata; also on the structure of adult articular cartilage.
