Technology and the standard of care.

.

Abstract

The fear of potential liability for not using a particular technology in patient care is, alone, rarely a valid reason for buying that technology. However, the availability of new technologies often results in the development of new standards of care. Hospital executives, as well as physicians, must be aware of such emerging standards and ensure that the care provided meets them; sometimes, that necessitates acquiring new equipment or supplies.
