Clinical implications of visceral hyperalgesia.

Abstract

Based on clinical experience and our understanding of chronic pain, both affective and sensory pathways may be involved in the visceral hyperalgesia seen in most patients with functional bowel disorders. This new awareness has changed the focus of treatment.
