The role of laser cyclocoagulation in cyclodestructive glaucoma surgery.

F Fankhauser1, S Kwasniewska.

Abstract

As a last-resort, antiglaucomatous procedure, laser cyclodestruction continues to attract attention. Whether this approach will be applied at an earlier stage in patients with glaucoma remains to be seen, although this procedure is already used in patients who refuse or do not tolerate surgery. The success rate of this procedure will improve as our understanding of the underlying mechanisms that contribute to intraocular pressure reduction are more thoroughly realized, and as safety improves with increased sophistication of instrumentation.
