[The inhibition of spontaneous and oxytocin-stimulated uterine contractions in isolated rat uteri with diazoxide (author's transl)].

Abstract

Diazoxide, a benzothiadizin derivative without diuretic effect, was tested for its tocolytic effectiveness in isolated uteri from pregnant and nonpregnant rats. Amplitude, frequency, basal tonus and duration of the total inhibition of labor pains were interpreted as parameters. Total or subtotal inhibition of amplitude and frequency could be obtained in all experiments. The duration of total inhibition of labor pains was between 3 and 27 minutes. Affect on the basal tonus was not consistant.
