Abstract
Troubles confronting hospital nursing--from a national shortage of nurses to low morale, high turnover, and rising costs of replacing and retaining staff members--require creative approaches and a rethinking of traditional primary care nursing. Nurse extender programs place non-nursing tasks in the hands of technicians trained to deliver meals, transport patients, take vital signs, and perform other patient care tasks.Entities:
