Charting the rapid rise of subacute care.

K Pallarito.

Abstract

In recent years, healthcare entrepreneurs have found subacute care to be a profitable niche. They also fill a large gap for hospitals, which have been forced by market pressures to discharge patients quicker and sicker. While subacute facilities offer a less expensive alternative to acute care, some critics charge they skim off the best patients.
