Diagnostic coding quality and its impact on healthcare reimbursement: research prospectives.

F L Waterstraat1, J Barlow, F Newman.

Abstract

This article reviews research on the sources of coding errors and summarizes the findings. It presents a research model and justification for experimental research to measure the factors affecting the sources of coding error and the potential impact these factors have on coding quality and subsequent reimbursement levels.
